Willo Historic District 252/365

The Willo Historic District takes its name from the two voting precincts (Wilshire and Los Olivos) that it encompasses. It was once a suburban community located on the outskirts of the city but today it resides in the shadow of the high-rise buildings of midtown Phoenix.

During the 1930s the Period Revival movement created tremendous variety in architectural styles. Tudor, Spanish, Mission, and Pueblo Revival styles can be found throughout the older sections of Willo. After the Great Depression, French Provincial, Monterey, and Ranch styles were constructed in the newer sections in the northern part of the district. Willo is one of the largest historic districts in the City of Phoenix and it is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Many of the homes have been meticulously refurbished and it is a popular choice of residence for young professionals. A search of the district’s for sale properties show a price range of $165,000 to $670,000, which in today’s real estate valuation means that a scant three years ago, many of these properties would have sold for in excess of $1 million.

It was impossible to find one highly representational property, so I decided to concentrate on those where the bougainvillea were particularly prominent as a theme. Our midwinter rains have produced absolutely stunning floral vegetation in our valley. So scoot on over to FKH Photo Journal for three more examples of homes in this beautiful area which just also happen to have a great bougainvillea display. CLICK HERE.

Thank you to Self Sagacity for the Beautiful Blogger Award.  What a nice surprise.  I am truly honored.

Congrats on the award! Perfect for you!
This is another pretty house. Is the bougainvillea the red plant? If so, it's beautiful!

The bougainvillea is such a beautiful plant. I wish we could grow them here. I didn't know houses had lost their value by so much in Phoenix, How awful! Of course, I couldn't afford a million dollar house but it must be terrible for those who did purchase them.
