51/100 Dogs - Old English Sheepdog

A new friend invited me to a dog show on Sunday so I felt this was a good opportunity to work on my 100 Dogs series, a category I haven't contributed to in quite some time.  It was my first attendance at a dog show and since I love dogs, it was a very fun time.  I especially enjoyed watching the canines being groomed pripr to their performance in the ring.  Here an Old English Sheepdog get the final touches on his hairdo before going out to compete.

A (Big) Bundle of Love

Truman, my granddog, a sweet boxer, decided he wanted to help me do my proofreading but unfortunately he pooped out after the first page!

I closed remotely today (Wednesday) on the property in Texas after a five-month escrow!  Amazing.  Think twice before selling a property in which the government might have an interest (this one was the USDA) if you want a quick close.  Tomorrow I have the final walkthrough on the new house in Phoenix with closing scheduled for Friday (a five-day close).  I'll be returning to Texas on Wednesday to retrieve my trusted Truck since she will come in so handy in this move and of course that means another three-day drive between East Texas and Arizona.  So I'll be scarce for the next few weeks as I move into a new house and get settled but I'll try to visit as often as possible and perhaps will have time for a random posting.  Don't forget me!  I shall return!

49/100 Dogs - Pug Mix

This sleepy little guy waited patiently for his human who was working at the petting zoo at last fall's Piney Woods Fair.

48/100 Dogs - Pit Bull/Terrier Mix

I don't like taking photos of animals through a chain-link fence but I couldn't resist since this little guy was posing for me.  He has amazing eyes; they're even color-coded to match his coat!  I discovered him while on a walk through a residential district in Rusk, Texas.  He may be little but he looks like a tough cookie!

47/100 Dogs - Flash - Basset Hound

Flash is the CEO of a rural plant nursery near where I live.  And no, he does not have a hangover.

46/100 Dogs - Pug

One day not too long ago as I was leaving home on some errands I spotted this cute character along with his buddy, a big white Great Pyrenees, trotting up the hill toward our house.  I pulled Truck over and got out with my camera in an attempt to take their photo.  Easier said than done!  They both were just all over me, licking me to death.  I did manage a couple shots of this little pug, who doesn't have a corkscrew tail!  I still haven't figured out where they live or who they belong to but they were definitely a precious pair.

Update:  My mom is home from her latest hospital stay and rehab recuperation.  There's very little time left in my schedule after taking care of her and still trying to do my part-time work.  I've dropped two of my proofreading clients and I still feel overwhelmed.  Picture-taking is a special occasion these days rather than a staple in my activities.  I've tried to get by to see most of my blogger friends in the past couple of days but if I've missed you I promise to visit as soon as I can!

45/100 Dogs - Lab Mix

I found this big white dog with a herd of goats while driving in a rural area.
Both dog and goats came up to greet me but we were separated by a locked fence.
They seemed happy to have some company.

44/100 Dogs - Unknown Breed

I fell in love with this little fellow when I spotted him at one of the numerous festivals held here in East Texas in the fall.  I loved his colors, his expressive face, the softness and well-groomed appearance of his coat.  But he was one of the shyest dogs I've ever seen.  He would not make eye contact and hovered in between his owner's legs.  I wanted to take him home with me and teach him -- well, something.  I think he is well-treated because of  his good physical condition but I couldn't help but feel there was something missing in his life that seemed so much like an overwhelming sadness.

41/100 Dogs ~ Mixed Breed

This little girl belongs to one of our neighbors, although they live a couple miles away.
I don't know her name or her breed background, but she's a pretty little thing, don't you think?
But she has a nasty habit of barking - a lot!

38/100 Dogs ~ Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog

The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog or Catahoula Cur is an American breed named after Catahoula Parish in Louisiana.  It is believed to be the oldest breed in this hemisphere second only to Native-American created breeds.  It is also called the Catahoula Hound or Catahoula Leopard Hound, although it is a cur rather than a true hound.  Other names it is known by include Catahoula Hog Dog or Catahoula Pig Dog, reflecting its traditional use in hunting wild boar.  It is a popular breed in this area of Texas due to our proximity to Louisiana and the high incidence of feral hogs.  This good-looking guy belongs to a neighbor, but I do not know his name (the dog's name, that is; I know the neighbor's name).  He is getting rather old and these days his bark is bigger than his bite!

34/100 Dogs ~ Aussie Pup

I photographed this sweet little Aussie pup at Canton Trade Days in March.

And just a month later look how much he's grown!

33/100 Dogs ~ Truman ~Boxer

Shortly after Christmas my granddog Sammy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and then in late January Truman came to live with my daughter and grandson via Boxer Luv, the Boxer rescue organization in Phoenix.  He has blended well into their family by this point.  He is believed to be about three years old.  One interesting thing they discovered about him is that when their land line rings, he goes to the set and picks up the receiver and brings it to someone to answer.  Perhaps he was a service dog in his past life!  This picture was taken by me the first day Truman met his new human family.
