38/100 Dogs ~ Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog
The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog or Catahoula Cur is an American breed named after Catahoula Parish in Louisiana. It is believed to be the oldest breed in this hemisphere second only to Native-American created breeds. It is also called the Catahoula Hound or Catahoula Leopard Hound, although it is a cur rather than a true hound. Other names it is known by include Catahoula Hog Dog or Catahoula Pig Dog, reflecting its traditional use in hunting wild boar. It is a popular breed in this area of Texas due to our proximity to Louisiana and the high incidence of feral hogs. This good-looking guy belongs to a neighbor, but I do not know his name (the dog's name, that is; I know the neighbor's name). He is getting rather old and these days his bark is bigger than his bite!

he is beautiful and these dogs make wonderful pets or work dogs. i have had friends with these dogs and love them, the dogs not the friends. ha ha
He looks like one serious pup, and with an occupation of hunting feral hogs, he would have to be tough stuff. He is a beauty though.
Cheers,
Jo
his looks favor a blue heeler. my louise is catahoula - much smoother coat and loppier ears - but just as intense. thelma, her sister, is mixed w/ pointer, i think. :)
Looks a bit like a Dingo... nice!
Hi Kathy,
good to know, that his bark is more impressive than his bite... he looks loke he is doing a a security job.
How about asking the neighbour about his name? The dogs name :-)
Liebe Grüße,
Pia
That is a smart looking dog!
I confess that I have never heard of a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog. Why is he giving you the evil eye? :)
I've never seen anything quite like this.
What beautiful markings.
Interesting facts about the breed.
