Waco - Arizona Road Trip - Day 1 Continued (and Texas Courthouse No. 6)
This sculpture of a Texas cowboy is part of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Sculptures which are located at Indian Spring Park along the banks of the Brazos River in Waco. The cowboy is leading three longhorn cattle but the day I took this picture the sun was so bright I actually could not get a good photo of the longhorns because of the noonday sun. Eventually three additional riders on horseback and a total of 25 longhorns will be added to complete the exhibit. If you'd like to sponsor another longhorn sculpture, the price is just $28,000.
I guess you've figured out by now that I love old courthouses! This is the McLennan County courthouse in Waco. The Beaux Arts style building was constructed in 1901. The elaborate dome of the courthouse is presently under renovation (the construction is not readily apparent from this picture), including repair of damage to the statue of the goddess Themis which adorns the dome. I think I will need to return when the work is completed and also during the fall or winter months when the dome is not obscured by foliage.

i'm loving this cross-country tour.
So imposing! It just reeks of authority. I have a question you can probably answer. Why do courthouse steps lead to the second floor? Is it part of the architectural style?
I love this one! Oh, and I'll get that longhorn check in the mail too.
I am loving your road trip photos, keep them coming. There is so much to see when you are on the road and you take the time to look around.
I like the foliage but it truly does obscure part of the view. :)
Great sculpture so I'm sure the longhorns will be well done too. Gee, only $28,000? Let me check as I think I have some spare change in my wallet. :)
I love old courthouses too - you've been sharing some beauty's!
Amazing old building.
The courthouse is beautiful, so stylish.
Hi Kathy, love the courthouse and the cowboy. And what a lovely road trip you're on. Looking forward to seeing your other posts.
The second shot is soooo good!!
I'd like to see the sculpture when complete. You are quite good at framing out churches and courthouses in your photos!
