La Grange, Fayette County, Texas

Downtown La Grange is a typical Texas town built around a courthouse on a square:  historic buildings of beautiful brickwork and stone.

For all you quilters out there, there is the Texas Quilt Museum.  You can kick my butt right now because I DID NOT go inside.  I'm not an aficionado of quilts (although I own a museum-quality quilt which I inherited and a first place Texas county fair blue ribbon quilt.  They're both in a storage facility baking in Arizona). You must remember that I was on a quest to find historic 1890s courthouses, not quilts!

I did however spend some time walking through Grandmother's Flower Garden next to the Quilt Museum which was planted to depict a typical turn-of-the-century town garden in La Grange and Fayette County.

Tomorrow, the piece de resistance:  the Fayette County Courthouse!

The buildings are classic and the flowers are delightful. Lucky you to have a quilt of the quality you describe. Get that treasure out of storage and use it!! If not, I'd gladly take it off your hands!!

That is quite a display on the side of the quilt museum. But, I love those flowers in the garden. Very nice.

Old Quilts, like old Courthouses, are messages from another time and place.

In fact, I once made a Courthouse Steps block for an organization raffle.

I'm pretty sure we can convince you of the historical importance of quilts!

Cheers

Jo, with needle in hand!

My mother was a quilter. I have neither the steady hand not the patience it takes to make a nice quilt. I do like to look at them though. I love the idea of a town garden. Can't wait to see that Courthouse.

That is an awesome quilt mural on the side of the building. I don't quilt, but I love them.

I love seeing old courthouses, too. Aren't courthouses that sit in the middle of the town square usually county seats?
